It seems to me that we have far too many holidays which honor those who fought, died, and killed in the name of this country. People always forget the killing part. It is my opinion that there was only one war that was truly in defense this country from oppression, and that was the Revolution. Even then, we stole what we fought to protect. What's the last war that was fought on continental US grounds? Anyone? I don't know myself for sure, but I seriously doubt it was in the last hundred years. I am ashamed of the way this country turned its back on Europe during World War II when millions were suffering and dying needlessly. Usually the US just jumps in and sticks its ass when it's not even asked for or wanted, but not that time. We waited until we got hit, until it was personal. Like all the people enslaved and killed in concentration camps wasn't reason enough. That says something about us when the only wars we're itching to get into are the really stupid ones. Draft, ha. People could have put a stop to that if they really wanted to. If enough people had denied the Vietnam draft, that disaster would have gone much differently. I won't honor those who had a hand in destroying the cities, the homes, the innumerable lives of innocents because they lived under a different government, all in "defense" of a land that we took from others by force. I don't dislike or hate veterans, but I have never felt the obligation to respect or honor someone just because I'm told. I pefer to think for myself.
