THE DEMS ARE IN DA HOUSE!!!  AND THE SENATE! TAKE THAT YOU REPUBLICAN BITCHES!

A bunch of us stayed downstairs late last night to watch the Daily Show/Colbert Report on the election, and then half-watched coverage until 1:00 hoping to see the Democrats take the Senate. Then we sort of gave up and played Final Fantasy XII.

A guy in my OE class found out I like Scandinavian metal bands and has offered to lend me some Nightwish CDs to burn over the weekend. Score! I got him into Apocalyptica. Spread the love.

I started writing this before my friends got me for dinner (around six) and I just got back from spending the rest of the evening watching tv in Jessica's room. She's a writer too (!!). I showed off my drawing book, and she showed me a website where I can watch episodes of ReBoot. OMG. I missed Lost, but I can download it tomorrow. It works out. When I watch things by myself, I can pay more attention.

Two weeks till I go home!

Del, I liked your thing.

Pick a band and answer only using the band's song titles.

Dropkick Murphys

Today I've been soaked to the skin and freaked out by a rampaging washing machine. I've got tons of homework. I got a package from home with the new Stargate mag, my voter's ballot, and fuzzy blue socks. I think I'll sleep all day tomorrow.

Last night I downloaded the Catherine Wheel album I've been wanting for ages but could never find. I LOVE IT. Now I just need to get my hands on a blank CD so I can burn it and re-upload it to put it onto my MP3 player.  I dislike the way iTunes works that way. Creative is much more lenient, but they don't let me download the shows I miss. Sometimes compromises must be made.

My box from home came today (one-day shipping! that was fast!) and now I can use my smaller backpack again and my pirate costume is finally all in one place. I can't wait to wear it. I still need to get a hat, and maybe I'll find a suitable sash somewhere. I don't know if Saturday Market is still going this time of year.

The previews of Nip/Tuck for next week just about made me die. Christian whumping!! I'm absolutely sure he's not going to die, because I don't think the show would work without either one of the guys, but it will be hella fun. Fortunately Halloween movie night is on Saturday. But even so, I could get it on iTunes. Which I still may do anyway.

My phone works again! I made two new ring tones (SG Atlantis and old Battlestar Galactica themes) and accidentally wrecked two of my old ones. Daylight savings time is coming up, and just in time because I nearly fall asleep in my Geology class EVERY DAMN TIME and they seriously need to turn off the AC in that building because I wasn't the only one in there this morning freezing my ass off. Lucky for me all my winter clothing came in that box today. I'll be all bundled up for the midterm. The professor also told us that hats aren't allowed during the test. What the hell is that all about? If it was about hiding answers, I would think a sleeve would work just as well. I want to know why no hats. May we wear clothes, or should that be considered cheating?

I'm so hungry right now. I need to start keeping around some snacks.

I think the caffeine in that mocha I had this morning finally kicked in.

Ozomatli played at my school tonight. I think they're famous, or something. It wasn't really my kind of music, but I went anyway because I'd never been to a real concert and I figured that, no matter what the music, seeing it live is different. There was very loud music, lots of yelling, and absolutely no concept of personal space. I couldn't see the stage very well, but at the end they had students dancing on it. It was enjoyable, but I would have had more fun if they'd been Smashing Pumpkins or somebody I like. Hopefully the rest of my hearing will return by tomorrow. I would have gone to Freebies at Freddie's afterwards but I decided I had enough fun for one night. And my back was freaking sore.

At the concert I ran into a guy I used to work with who goes here. It was oh so nice to see a familiar face.

I tried to take a nap this afternoon but only managed a semi-meditative state. It did refresh a little. I got some sleep last night, but not enough. Slowly getting used to this.

There are like, thirty people in this dorm with iTunes. And I can never get on anybody's music.

It's my last night at home. It feels different here; maybe it's just the overpacked bags cluttering up my floor, the spaces on my walls where posters are missing (actually, they fell off, but I didn't see the point in putting them back up), or how empty my dresser top looks. It seems I'm leaving at exactly the right time as well, because there's a noisy mouse in my ceiling and my bed's starting to fall apart (nothing dirty, I assure you).

I have found some hilarious Star Trek stuff on YouTube. For instance, scenes from Who Mourns for Adonais with the dialogue from the first French Knight scene in Monty Python's Holy Grail. The Firm's "Star Trekkin'" song, both the original video (which is just creepy) and with TOS scenes. Not to mention a Kirk/Spock NIN's "Closer" music video that's to die for (if you're into that sort of stuff).

*pure energy*

Here I am in silence
Looking round without a clue
I found myself along again
All alone with you
I can see behind your eyes
The things that I don't know
If you hide away from me
How can our love grow?

I wanna know
What you're thinking
There are some things you can't hide
I wanna know
What you're feeling
Tell me what's on your mind

I know I could break you down
But what good would it do
I could surely never know
That what you say is true
Here I am in silence
It's a game I have to play
You and I in silence
 With nothing else to say

I wanna know
What you're thinking
There are some things you can't hide
I wanna know
What you're feeling
Tell me what's on your mind

-Pure Energy // Information Society

I listened to this song a lot when I was a kid (had it on a Cocoa Puffs hits tape, or something). Recently I heard it again and I've missed it. By the way, it's Spock who says "Pure energy energy energy" (echo).

I will describe my dorm and moving experience in detail tomorrow whether you like it or NOT! (Assuming I can get my computer interned-connected by then.)

fuel of father's sweat
sweet like baby's breath
strong like superman
stinking up the streets I am
the feeling does me in
but here I go again

I... I love gasoline
I... I love gasoline

smooth like summer silk
sweet like mother's milk
warm like tenderness
perfume sprayed around my neck
I know it makes no sense
but here I go again

I... I love gasoline
I... I love gasoline

here comes the rush again
let me down easy...

warm like summer breeze
flowing round your city
come on down with me

I... I love gasoline...

-Gasoline // Catherine Wheel

It doesn't express my feelings on the subject... it's just a damn sexy song.

I recently found out that the book I got from England is going to become available here. *headdesk* They couldn't have told me last February??! Oh well. Having a book from England is still cool.

I woke up with a Catherine Wheel song in my head and I can't remember the title or most of the words. Kick-ass song, though.

That thing I saw on Lifetime last night turned out to be Joe Flanigan's first movie. Aaaw. It was made twelve years ago and the man has hardly aged. I find it hard to believe he's turning forty next year because he looks ten years younger. Five at the very least.

I leave for school in nine days. I'm wildly freaked out and incredibly excited. My roommate moved into the dorm two days ago. I think. It's sort of hard to make complete sense of her e-mails. I'm so glad I'll have a few days to get to know the campus because I'm not exactly sure how to get there from my dorm.

Come on Daisy, don't drown me this time.

I've struck upon a whim to work on my writing again! I do wish it hadn't come at such an inconvenient time, right in the middle of a very long book series and less than a month before I head off to school. I very nearly sat down to watch the entire extended Lord of the Rings trilogy for inspiration, but decided that was a task for winter. In summer I either put them on to listen to while working on maps, or watch them one per night. But I hate just watching one of them, because really the whole thing is one single story. Albeit a very long one. Anyway, at this point I'm still jotting notes in my Moleskine and figuring out names and stuff. It's slow-going stuff even when I'm working on it every day. I can't wait until I'm busy again, because I'll probably work on it more. It's true what they say about getting more done when you have more to do. I think I'm getting carpal tunnel.

One of the books I ordered came in the mail this morning. (Yay!) Three weeks after I ordered it. The other had better not be far behind, because tomorrow's the last day of the delivery window and I want my book, dammit. I know I'm driving the rest of my family nuts about it because my mom cheered when I brought in the package this morning. This guy is so not getting positive feedback.

I just danced to my favorite song on the radio. Life is good today.

Today was not relaxing again and my feet are starting to hurt permanently. All of us went out, first to Fry's Electronics and then to an outlet store in Woodburn (which we had immense trouble finding because Mom thought it was in Wilsonville). I now have much new music and finally replaced the Goo Goo Dolls album I lost years ago. Tomorrow will also not be restful, as I have to get up early for a dental cleaning. In the afternoon I'll be at Erica's swimming and then watching premiers on SciFi. I think I'll sleep for the week before school orientation and the trip to visit relatives in California, soon after which relatives from Illinois will visit us. Summer is far less relaxing than I remember.

Apparently I'm a dirty pirate hooker from whore island now. Hez gives out the best names. I think I'd rather be a dirty pirate dominatrix though, and Jack Sparrow and Will Turner are the first ones going in my harem. Norrington too, if he's scruffy. Rowr.
st_jane_ambulance: (snape)

I became a total girl for a day and went shopping. I got Pirates stuff and a Superman shirt at Hot Topic and now my laptop has Jack Sparrow on the lid (along with the HRC logo, a Screaming Hats sticker, and the English flag). I also have a very cosy sweatshirt. Then I went next door to Buckle where I was treated to a personal shopper. It was kind of fun, especially when she found me pants that fit. They were quite expensive, but I think I know where I'm going for jeans from now on. And I got a kick-ass belt of bottle caps with a seatbelt buckle that I saw there months ago and really wanted. That should just about do it for my back-to-school shopping for a while. I'm sure to get more clothes in Eugene. At Borders I got a bunch of music plus King Kong and the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven. Woohoo 3+ hours of Orlando Bloom!!

I actually didn't sleep on the ground last night. That was a lie.

It's now been over a week since I last drove my car. I've mostly been finding things to keep me busy during my endless free time, but unfortunately very few of them seem to have anything to do with writing. I've burned a bunch of CDs from my brother's music collection (because he only has iTunes and I can't get the bloody music stealing program to work) - about half of them are Irish punk rock. Woohoo Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys!! Also I stole some Green Day, Marcy Playground, Bush, and Weezer. But I think I might have misnamed some of the tracks on one of the disks. I wish I could remember which one it was.

I need to decide which language to take. I kind of need to start right away, because I need two years of the same one to get a BA and that's just about all I have left. Everybody in my family is pressuring me to take one I'm going to use. I can't seem to get through to them that I just love languages and it doesn't matter to me if I use it or not. Mom suggested I take Spanish. Like I can't fucking take it ANYWHERE. I already took it for two years in high school and it's not among my favorites. I'm looking at Finnish, Russian, Chinese, or Latin. I've already got my heart set on Old English, but if I can take two without having a mental breakdown, I will. If I only take classes I need for my major, I'm going to have a very light class load and I'll be bored all the time.

I'm going to see if I can't get some work done before I go to bed. I'd like to start writing my book before the decade is out.

I smell pretty.

Super Meme

I'm posting a lot today. But I'm bored here at work and I'm tired so I don't want to do anything that involves a lot of brainpower. Here's a meme-whatever I stole from [profile] sapporonoodles

And also, the Frankenstein Meme that I got from [profile] sapporonoodles who got it from [profile] calikali. Why? Because I've got nothing better to do.

I need more of these things. They keep my fingers busy. I get a wireless connection from McMenamins across the street so when I bring Andromeda to work I get internet! Yay!

It's prom night in McMinnville and these lit-up horse-drawn carriages keep going past the theatre ferrying kids in formal wear. Bagh. They're having more fun than me.

I have a mind to use these batches of songs as "soundtracks" to short stories (although there seem to be enough soundtracks in there already). It started out as sheer boredom, but I think I'll make a writing exercise out of it. Number One looks like it could turn out horror/action adventure or something like a Stephen Sommers movie. Two, darkish, gothic. Three's not gonna be happy. Four, well, that'll be interesting. And five looks like a love story. I can't promise it will be pretty.
