I don't remember which one of us came up with it, I know Erica named it, but back in the day when I was interested in writing Harry Potter fanfic, there was this idea of Harry and co. being transported to Arthurian times... there was talk of Lupin being there, and Morgan le Fay hitting on him, but nothing much really got planned.

Now, my days as an HP writer have long been over and done with; I only ever finished one story, and it was so lousy I usually pretend it doesn't exist. But I was looking over my old project list and a crossover bunny bounced into existence:

Harry Potter / BBC's Merlin.

Uther's got his hate-on for all magic users, which is kind of bad for them, and hey that dragon sounds just like Mr. Ollivander.

I'm not sure yet whether it would be better semi-serious or as just plain crack.

Snape's so going, though. Even if just to fanboy Gaius' mad potions skillz.

"That's chess!" snapped Ron. "You've got to make some sacrifices! I take one step forward and she'll take me -- that leaves you to checkmate the king, Harry!"

Wait, wait, wait -- one step forward? You're a knight! You only move in an L!

Here I am, nineteen days of vacation left, and I want to read the Harry Potter series. It could happen, but I wouldn't have much time for anything else, and I have a scarf to finish and music videos to work on, and I wanted to go through Inheritance again before the new book comes out. Maybe I'll just read my favorites again. But I really wanted to read the whole thing with new perspective. Oh bloody well.

On the bright side, I get new glasses next week. FINALLY.

OMG, the internet and phones were down today until after 2:30pm because some idiot hauling a prefabricated house up the road tore down our line.

Oh yeah. And it seems that the Titanic the Tardis crashed into is not "our" Titanic, because it seems to be in space. I think I remember Douglas Adams or somebody wrote a book like that once.

Anyway, here's the next session.

I'm wearing the Gryffindor hat I just finished making a couple of hours ago, and I finished polishing the second session, so here it is.
Happy Hogwarts Fun Hour, Part the Second

In which Hermione's underground porn ring is discovered, Snape makes Harry an offer he can't refuse, and Seamus keeps popping in and out of existence.

Well, last summer I promised to unearth Happy Hogwarts Fun Hour, and now I actually have the time to edit and post it. For those of you who were not there (or have convenienty forgotten), a few years ago Erica and I were remembering what fun we had as the 7:00 gang on the Planet Hippo chatroom way back when, and we decided to do something similar with our now highly-corrupted minds. We chose Harry Potter as our fandom and invited Delaney to join us, and we sort of role-played this thing more or less on the fly in MSN Messenger once a week. We each chose characters and bastardized them to our hearts' content in ways that would have J. K. Rowling rising from her grave to seek revenge on us were she dead (god forbid).

A few cautions: there's not too much to be offended by in this one: hints of slash and solicitation, but it will get stronger in following issues, believe me. There will be, at the very least, copious amounts of slash and love prisms. I know there's at least one person who's found this journal accidentally. Seriously, if you don't know me, or are not okay with this sort of thing, I don't suggest you read this.

Also, my deepest apologies to Ms. Rowling. We were only having fun. We love her stories, and no offense is meant.

Happy Hogwarts Fun Hour, Part the First
by Erica & Marie
April 6, 2004

Wherein the students return to Hogwarts, Neville summons a wood elf, and Hermione's the only one not getting laid.
And that's just chapter one.

Otherwise: I finally saw Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. Wow.

I really have no color sense, so it took me a long time to come up with this scheme. I like it, and I'm thinking I'll keep it for fall and change it back to blue for the winter.

SPEAKING OF FALL: It is my favorite season of the year, and since I started school in Eugene I don't get to enjoy the full effects at home like I used to. There's no smell of apples, somebody keeps blowing the leaves off the sidewalks (and I really wish they wouldn't; leaf imprint patterns look so cool later), and I'm usually too busy to notice how fall it is anyway. And really, it's a city, albeit a small one, and seasons are different in cities. While I do like having everything I need within the range of a brisk walk or a bus trip, I don't think I'll live in a city again when I finish school (whenever that may be). I like the peace and the quiet and the fresh air of the country too much. I'll deal with the isolation and how creepy it gets at night. I've been doing that all my life.

It looks like I'm coming up on watching Doctor Who S2 for the second time in as many weeks (although probably this time with the commentary tracks on). Jessica really wants to see Atlantis when we get back and I'm only too happy to oblige. As soon as we finish that (as well as the final two episodes of Firefly) I'm getting her addicted to the Doctor.

I laughed, I cried,
I shook my fist and shouted WHY?
And then I died,
And came alive,
With teardrops stinging both my eyes,
And then I smiled and sighed;
What a ride.

WOOT!

HARRY POTTER IS HERE! LET THE FLAILFEST BEGIN!
st_jane_ambulance: (two)
I don't trust Snape and I think he's an evil bastard.
I'm really hoping Kreacher kept that locket.
I want Draco to be a good guy.
Wormtail's going to do something useful. I just know it.
Harry/his scar is NOT a Horcrux. This isn't Dragonheart.
I'm all but certain Harry's the heir of Gryffindor or whatever. There, I said it.
And he'd better not be the Boy Who Died. Or else.

AS IF I'm going to get any sleep tonight. Or I'll have crazy book dreams. Those are always interesting.

By the looks of it, I'm going to be reading Deathly Hallows during PMS Week.

WORST! POSSIBLE! TIME! EVER!!

OMG I have Okk hair.

My ReBoot DVDs are, apparently, out of print and rare enough to be worth well over a hundred dollars each on Amazon. And that's the starting price. One goes up to $300 (!). Never buy anything out of print from Amazon. You'll most likely find it cheaper someplace else. I bought each of those DVDs at Suncoast for $15 a couple of years back. There is, by the way, no way in HELL I'm selling them. I'm on a serious ReBoot rebound right now, which will change in a few days -- hopefully only temporarily, so I can get back to work on the fic I've wanted to do for like, five years.

OMG BY THE WAY I tried to read the ReBoot fics I wrote in 2002, when I first started writing fanfic EVER and DEAR GOD it was traumatic. I've wanted for ages to rewrite them, but if I can't bring myself to read them that might be a problem. I may have to start from scratch and my sketchy memories.

Production has stalled on my Doctor Who scarf. Instead I've been giving myself eyestrain staring at computer screens all day, which means that if I can't get rid of it by Saturday, I'm going to have to read Deathly Hallows with a microscope.

Harry's going to live, dammit. I can believe that for another three days, at least.

OMG ORDER OF THE PHOENIX IS SO AMAZING AND WHEN DID DANIEL RADCLIFFE GET SO GODDAMN GORGEOUS?!?

One month until Deathly Hallows.
One day until the last Stargate SG-1 episode ever. But I won't get to see it then.

My muse is stalking me but I don't have anything ready to write. I just finished a Prisoner of Azkaban video to Nightwish's Moondance, which I was working on until three in the morning, and it rocks. My allergies suck today. I have my Doctor Who (yay!) and I've been watching a little each day, but it's going to end on Doomsday and that will make me sad. I really miss season three.

I want to make the 14-odd-foot Fourth Doctor scarf when I've finished with the Gryffindor. I'm going to need a bigger basket.

Reasons I'm happy today (despite it being Monday and work being more boring than usual):

 - I'm a brunette again (my roots were clashing with the red)
 - I have a white hot chocolate from Starbucks
 - Michael Shanks will be on 24 next week (!!!)
 - I have manageable homework now that I dropped Old English (honestly, I can translate Beowulf on my own at this point)
 - I know it's spring, because my muse has woken up and is poking at me steadily saying "write...write...write..."
 - Stargate is so BACK (and soon to be whupping ass in as many as three galaxies - once Daniel's back in the show, of course)
 - I read an excerpt from the third book in the Inheritance trilogy (Eragon was the first) which made me remember, GOD, just how much I love those books and I really hope it's coming out this summer, because that would be kick-ass if I got that AND Harry Potter. . .but then I would be out of things to read

Speaking of Eragon, I had the most bizarre dream about the movie, but it wasn't the movie exactly and for some reason Ben Browder was in it. Saphira wasn't, and neither was Eragon, actually, although Jeremy Irons did make an apperrance. I don't know what the hell that was all about, but now I want to read the books again. They are, unfortunately, a good 70 miles away at the moment.

Jessica and I finally finished watching SG-1! Okay, we skipped two episodes. But they were clip shows and one of them is my absolute least favorite episode. Onward Atlantis! (And after that, Firefly!)
st_jane_ambulance: (four)
FYI, my Firefly/Serenity video kicks some gorram ass. I've watched the series and the movie again, because I missed them a lot. I wish like hell there was more. My favorite character changed - not like I really had a definitely favorite, but Wash was pretty close, but then he and Simon duked it out and Simon won. But hell, he's still alive, so he's already got a leg up. And I always did like Simon.

I saw a preview online for the next Pirates movie, and I nearly died. I want May to come so bad it hurts. Then, of course, is July, with the Order of the Phoenix movie and THE LAST FREAKING HARRY POTTER BOOK. Summer is going to rock so hard.

I've started where I left off in the New Jedi Order, I think. It just sort of happened. Fine time too, when I won't have time to read for the next eleven weeks.

I, by the way, have pants that fit and new blue shoes that are bouncy so I can do swordfighting class and not get blisters or trip over my feet.

Two and a half gorram weeks until Stargate and you have no idea how excited I am.
st_jane_ambulance: (two)
So we've just finished the last of the Harry Potter movies, I'm wired on caffeine so I know I can't sleep yet, and what do I feel like doing with my night? Tackling my pile of homework. I'm planning to spend a good chunk of the weekend in the library working on some papers. I ordered The Sims 2 from Amazon, which should be here in a week or so, and then I'm so not going to get any work done. I might as well do stuff while I have what counts as a sorry excuse for free time.

Mom called the day after my birthday because she couldn't get a hold of me then. But she called at 8:30 in the morning. I don't know why she thought I'd be awake. I get up no early than ten, except on Thursdays.

I threw away a pair of socks today because my shoes ate them.

Week 1

Wow, it's been a week. Okay.

So I'm back at school. The night we got back we had a round of Apples to Apples with Joe's new expansion pack until about two in the morning, even though we were already exhausted, because we hadn't seen each other in a month and Apples to Apples is so much more fun on sleep deprivation anyway. The next day was the first day of classes. I dropped two, Chinese Religions and Japanese Anime, because I'm going to be busy enough this term and apparently the anime one is open to the public anyway. I don't know anybody in my German class because I had to change teachers due to a schedule conflict. The room we're in sucks, and there's barely enough space for the desks, but at least it's warm. My Humanies class is in a lecture hall and I love the class. We've only had two sessions because on Friday the teacher was iced in, and tomorrow there's no school, but the reading is interesting (for a change) and my discussion group is small and our GTF is wired on coffee that early. Old English is also fun, even though we don't have Professor Bayless anymore, and there are fewer people. We may get to go on a field trip to the Mt. Angel monastery and, if we're lucky like last year's class, might get to see the old manuscripts in the vault. I'm crossing my fingers.

On Monday it was 60+ degrees, and on Thursday it was snowing. Go figure. Jessica got snow for her birthday, but it looks like I'll get rain for mine. On Monday nights I work at the library from 3-8, so I miss dinner with my friends at Barnhart. Fortunately there's a microwave on my floor and food at Grab 'n' Go. I will not be eating Campbell's Chunky Chicken Noodle Soup again. This week it's either three-cheese rotini or Spaghetti-os. I've been practically living in a friend's room on the third floor this week, huddling under a blanket because her heat's been out and watching either whatever's on tv or her play Twilight Princess and Lufia II. I haven't worked on my scarf much lately, but I might be joining a weekly knitting circle in my hall on Wednesdays if I don't have too much homework. We're trying to corrupt Anne-Marie's new roommate Hilary with our evil ways.

Thursday was Pirate Night, which I was going to dress up and go to (they had pizza and watched POTC) but none of my friends were going so I watched Grey's Anatomy with them instead. I don't think I'd watch it by myself ever, but it's very fun with them, and it's how I met them in the first place. On Friday we started introducing Jessica to Harry Potter, and she's convinced that Dumbledore is a dirty old man. We'll finish the marathon tonight or tomorrow. Yesterday, in celebration of my and Jessica's birthdays, we ate at Sakura (ELEVEN of us), which has very yummy sushi. Areum gave me an adorable pink umbrella from Korea. Also, the heat was out for the whole building for most of the day. I was so pleased this morning when there was hot water. Today it's about 30 degrees outside.

I have a new PEBL phone, which is blue, and the number is 503 560-3352. Seriously, our family plan has more minutes than we can use in a month, and nights and weekends are apparently free. I absolutely love the thing and I take it everywhere because it's my newest toy and it's so adorable. It is my precious.

Jessica told me that she thought I looked "neat" when she first saw me and wanted to get to know me. How cool is that?! I swear the two of us share a brain or something, we're freakishly alike. Except I like bright colors and she's better at video games than me.

I've got a crapload of reading and translating homework to do, not to mention a couple of papers to start working on. I'm still reeling from the change of pace and lack of sleep, and I seem to be having trouble staying asleep after 7 am. I have no idea why.

THE DUNE VIDEO IS DONE. Oh my god. It took me four goddamn days and then the stupid thing wouldn't save, and fixing that problem took four hours. I can't remember the last time one of my own hobbies stressed me out so much. I'm so glad it's done. I can sleep in peace. By the time I finally got it to save I was about ready to destroy my editing program. Windows Movie Maker must die. I want different software.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. She doesn't skimp on dark and foreboding now, does she?

I'm going to read Dune now.

Era-gone

Here's what happened: a newbie director took a 500 page book and compressed it into an hour and forty-five minute movie and COMPLETELY RUINED ERAGON. I was not pleased. However, I was sort of expecting it. At this point it's doubtful they'll make Eldest, which I liked better, unless they get somebody new and WHO KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING!!!

It's exactly what I'm always afraid will happen to one of the Harry Potters; they'll cut too much out and ruin the story. But so far they've all had good directors, and none of them has been under two hours, even the first, which was less than half the size of Eragon.

One thing I did like: the influence of Native American, Middle Eastern, and African styles in costuming. It was something I haven't seen often and it, at least, was well-done. And the boys were wearing leather, which did please me. Jeremy Irons was very good, too, for the half he was in. What confused me the most was why he was narrating the opening of the movie (which was just weird) when his character kicked the bucket an hour in.

Also the movie was started ten minutes late, the previews were skipped completely, it was in the wrong lens to start out with, and it went out of frame twice.

Anyway, I went and rented some movies (two seasons of CSI because I'm in that zone again, Chronicles of Narnia, Superman, and X2 because I think there might be something I like in the deleted scenes) and got some awesome shampoo that makes my hair feel AMAZING and a new facial wash because the other one wasn't working for crap. And an energy drink, which is still in my system after six hours. I'm going to be up all bloody night.

Oh yeah, last night: windy as hell. The power died for a few hours so I did some writing-related stuff by candellight because there was nothing else to do. Once, when this happened, we played board games by candles. Anyway, I kind of like writing by candles except my heater wasn't working (the heat is electric) and I was freaking freezing. Water started coming in through my smoke detector (which always happens in weather like that).

I'm getting into that tri-yearly drawing mood, right on schedule.

Maybe I'll read Eragon again so I don't feel so cheated.
