I think that for NaNo (yes, flipflopping AGAIN) I'll do that story I've been working on for seven or eight years instead of the one I came up with a month and a half ago (or at this point, the one I came up with last weekend).
It was mostly just missing a plot. I'mcannibalizing revising an outline I came up with in 2003 and always liked, but didn't really fit once I gave the whole world an overhaul. It's got enough elements that were worming their way into the new story anyway.
Sure, the world is still under construction, but at the rate it's going it'll be another eight years before it's really ready. I'm sure forcing myself to actually write the main story will get a fair amount of world-building done. And sure, I was extra tired of regular fantasy a few weeks ago, but I've built enough of the setting that it at least has character now.
